Coach Bio
Michel Gauthier

I began coaching hockey in high school and really never looked back. I continued to coach at various competitive levels and age groups.  I’ve been a volunteer coach for the Capital City Condors for ten years and have also worked as a lead instructor for the Sens Hockey Skills Development Programs for two years doing group and semi-private skills sessions. Growing up, I played Tier 2 hockey here in Ottawa and continue to play to this very day, now for the simple love of the game. As a hockey coach, my philosophy centers around creating a positive atmosphere for players to build their confidence and develop their character and leadership skills. Our practices aim to have a balance between skill development, game sense drills, and fun activities. During games, I don’t tend to focus on winning or losing, but rather on the elements that players can control, such as staying consistent with our team’s game plan which centers around puck possession, puck pressure, and defensive responsibility. I tend to use positive reinforcement and highlight players who demonstrate positive characteristics like a strong work ethic, a team first mentality, confidence and creativity. Respect and leadership are important elements of my philosophy as we develop young players into well-rounded adults. A safe and supportive team atmosphere is essential for players to learn and grow without the fear of making mistakes. Respect is paramount, and we emphasize good sportsmanship early in the season by respecting officials, keeping dressing rooms clean and coming up with a philanthropic team activity that will have a positive impact in the community.
